As of this writing, we are in the middle of Passion Week and nearing Resurrection Day. As I reflect on the message given last Sunday in church, I am reminded that the Bible foretold Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem. Scripture after scripture would describe the details of Passion Week; His coming, preparation, entry, and welcome into Jerusalem, betrayal, death, and resurrection.
Skeptics, specifically from the Jewish religious body, questioned Jesus and His entry into Jerusalem. But, some welcomed Jesus as the coming King, and as they lay down their garments and palm branches, they proclaimed audibly with shouts of Hossanah - it would take less than a week for the shouts of Hosannah to turn to “crucify Him.”
Palm Sunday’s message, titled “Out Of The Darkness,” would seem to be a title at odds with the preaching - but, if anything, it was the arrow striking the bullseye.
Out of the darkness, Jesus would be the light of the world. For thousands of years, the scriptures would proclaim clearly and loudly of Jesus' coming - but it seemed those with the knowledge of the laws and prophets would do their best to snuff out the light - without effect.
He came into the world He created, and they did not recognize Him. The world, in its darkness, did not comprehend the Light, and so comes the collision of kingdoms - light and darkness, good and evil, Satan and God. John 1:10
All of history pointed to Passion Week. It is the culmination of God’s plan, design, and salvation for humanity - and they missed it!
There is a battle raging on today, the battle for your soul. Let us not be deceived; Satan will lure us into believing all is okay in our life - the world in its darkness will do all it can to draw us away from God’s plan of salvation.
If you find hope and solace in the things of the world, I encourage you to accept Jesus as your Savior. I don’t have to tell you that the world has nothing to offer to satisfy the hunger and thirst in your soul.
For God so loved the world, He gave His only Son for our salvation. John 3:16
