"I just killed my baby," laughing as she drove off

While I was browsing the internet, I stumbled across an article about a young couple announcing the birth of their firstborn. They were evidently excited, which was understandable; the article went on to mention that the couple had experienced a miscarriage in the past.

Nineteen years ago, my wife told me she was expecting a baby. It was a special time that we both eagerly looked forward to. During the pregnancy, my wife was extra careful to ensure nothing would happen to her or the baby. Our visits to the OBGYN were always positive and reassuring, but as new parents, we were still filled with nerves and sheer joy.

But the most remarkable part of our doctor visits was hearing my daughter's heartbeat. With the thump-thump rhythm and the whoosh of her tiny heart, it was clear that God was busy crafting His masterpiece in Mommy’s belly.

I read a recent piece from Love Life USA, a nonprofit that encourages churches to stand against abortion, regarding a prayer walk at an abortion clinic in Texas. A woman exiting the clinic shouted, "I just killed my baby," and laughed as she sped away in her car.

On the one hand, I am immensely happy for those mothers who have been blessed with a child after years of longing. On the other hand, I cannot help but feel a sense of sorrow and confusion when mothers choose to abort their babies - children that should be celebrated, but instead, are met with condemnation. How can we reconcile this duality of emotions as a culture?

The Bible tells of an incident in which two mothers, who had each given birth around the same time, come before King Solomon. One of the infants had died and the mother of that deceased child switched it with the living newborn. When the biological mother awoke and discovered her own baby was no longer there, she quickly went to the king for justice. This account can be found in 1 King 3:16-28.

When King Solomon hears both sides of the story, since they both claim to be the mother, he commands a sword be brought to him and orders the baby be cut in two. The biological mother shouts out not to kill the baby and asks that the infant be given to the dishonest mother. Her response is heart-wrenching. She says, "Divide him! That way. He won't belong to either one of us.".

When I think of this deceitful mother, I can't help but draw comparisons to our present-day culture. Abortion has become politicized, its funding touted and justified in the media as a form of healthcare and equity. It's like an eye for an eye ideology - the abortionist saying, if we don't get what we want, then let the baby suffer the consequences.

To my fellow Christian believers, why is the church divided on abortion when scripture speaks of life in the womb? Even if we ignore biblical scripture, scientific evidence proves that a fetus is alive from conception - cells forming and multiplying. How did our thoughts about whether a person should live or die become influenced by location, age, health, finances, and social status?

Abortion is not just a mother's issue; fathers must also be held accountable.

Data from the CDC in 2018 shows that most abortions were done by unmarried women, indicating a lack of quality men in society today. Men are expected to provide for and protect marriage and family. However, many do not take on this responsibility as a man or father.

The dissolution of marriage and family in America has led to an uncontrollable moral and spiritual decline - people’s pursuit of their own wants causes them to overlook the pain and death experienced by unborn children.

Greetings, again, brother Douwes. This is my other comment. (Today, I also commented on your 8/19/2023 article.) With profound sorrow, ungodly worldviews continue the moral decline in this once great nation. Men, who don't know how to be godly men, and the demise of godly homes are unfortunate results that fuel the industry that murders unborn babies. A section of my website, “First Three Articles on Worldviews in Conflict,” contains my thoughts from last June. Their is no room for debate. To take the life of the unborn child, except to save the physical life of the mother, is murder. Reasoning from science and the Bible prove this. So-called Christians, in so-called churches -- who affirm the so-called right of…

I appreciate your comment and your support for the voiceless. I believe the state of our culture and nation is a direct result of Christian apathy. Over 50 million babies have been aborted in America alone since 1973 - our children are suffering the most.
