We have a problem Christians! The world believes the Church supports abortion. Churches may support abortion, but not the Church.
Let's not be confused, a church is not the Church.
Okay, I presume you disagree?
What is the Church?
Generally, this is how we refer to church today.
A place Christians gather to worship. Usually in a building.
Can be referred to as a body of believers or Christians. (Any person can claim to be a Christian.)
But the true Church in the bible is Ekklesia meaning “calling out”
These are Christian believers that have been called out, and that have experienced a new life in Christ. They are born again and have become a new creation in Jesus Christ. (Jn. 3:5-8, 2 Cor. 5:14-19.)
Who is the Church?
The true Church in the bible is not a building, but a body of believers. These believers are sanctified in Christ Jesus. They are separated to God. The born-again believer is the Church, and the Church is the Bride of Christ.
Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours: 1 Cor. 1:2
The world is watching the C/church, but what C/church?
Recently, CNN interviewed two Christians about abortion. They believe in the same Bible, and the same Jesus, but have different views on abortion. You can read it here.
Our mainstream media is having a hay day when it comes to the Christian faith. Christians are being bashed for speaking the truth. If they sound too conservative they are automatically deemed nationalists, racists, and bigots because they don't fit today's narrative. That being said, Christians that speak about social justice, systemic racism, and black and brown injustice are given space to voice their opinion. Don't get me wrong, I understand these issues matter in our society, and it should mean much more for the Church. And let’s be clear, having more or less airtime on CNN does not define a true Christian.
RollingStone put out an article; Think Christianity is Anti-Abortion? Think again. You can read it here.
"That narrative largely aligns with what Americans have been led to believe. It also happens to be false, the product of an effort by conservative white evangelicals to convince us all that an anti-abortion stance is synonymous with godliness, that Christians are united in their opposition to this sinful scourge on the nation."
It's no surprise the article blames white evangelicals. The race card continues to be used in every moral, and biblical debate. Christians fall backward in submission, abandoning sound biblical doctrine.
How is it that Christians are so divided in America today?
The first record of division dates back to the garden of Eden. Adam and Eve disobeyed God, and they hid from God. But, not only did they hide from God, they hid from each other. It was sin that caused this division. I am inclined to believe that Christians are divided today, because of sin. (Gen. 3)
It seems Christians get along very well when singing worship songs on Sunday morning and listening to the pastor's “Three Steps to Better Living” sermon. But, once everyone steps out of the church and is confronted with police brutality, prejudice, racism, injustice, social justice, abortion, and all the other fine topics our mainstream media and social apps report. Suddenly we have an opinion.
Should the church show empathy toward the marginalized? Should we be concerned about racism and injustice? How about abortion and the right to life? Yes! We should be loving and caring, we should live as Christ was empathetic, and loving to the sinner. But let's not mistake empathy with the truth. Even though Jesus showed unrestrained love for the sinner, He also spoke of hell more than any other person in the bible.
As we edge toward the coming of Jesus Christ, we are seeing the events of bible prophecy being fulfilled. Yes, we are witnessing wars and rumors of wars, we are witnessing weather changes and natural disasters that follow, but particularly human behavior. Men will be lovers of themselves, lawlessness will amplify, and people will be given over to sin. Man will call good, evil, and evil good. (2 Tim 3:1-5, Matt 24:12, Rom 1:22-25, Isa 5:20)
Because of man’s ignorance, they will not see wrong.
In the last few years, we have witnessed a change in our country. Crime in America has surged. You can pull article after article, statistic after statistic on why people commit crimes and why the surge. But the issue is the heart. The heart is deceitful above all things. (Jer. 17:9)
We have also witnessed the government demanding that churches close during the covid pandemic. Many churches responded by closing their doors. Many of those churches accepted the government's PPP (paycheck protection program) to pay church staff since church doors were closed and tithes and offerings declined. I get it, and I understand the possible need financially, but at what cost? Millions upon millions of people across our nation were now having church isolated at home. Christians were saying, the building is not a church, we the people are the church, as we continued for months and for some churches over a year of not fellowshipping with our fellow brothers and sisters.
Not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another and all the more as you see the Day approaching. Hebrews 10:25
These last two years have not only opened a can of sin in our nation, but it has exposed the church. Closed church doors damaged our nation and we are seeing the effect of it today. Not just among non-believers, but believers too.
I was naive in believing that the church would rejoice after the turning of Roe v Wade. My initial thought; as a church, we will all celebrate life. I understand, we don't have to post on social media to say we support the outcome. But it was the criticism that echoed over the rejoicing.
Even if the Church failed in these issues, and even if the Church failed in providing and caring for those who need help the most, even if the Church failed in speaking and living the gospel, even if the Church failed as being the true Church for Jesus. This does not excuse the Christian from acknowledging and protecting life in the womb.
Life begins at conception. The baby has its own unique genetic code, that no other living being in the universe has. The human in the womb is a very precious living soul created by God.
Does the Church support abortion? No!
