I was raised in a house of hunters who loved the outdoors. I remember so many nights sleeping outdoors on our hunting trips sleeping under the umbrella of stars with my family. Watching and counting satellites, as well as falling stars as we would call them, streak through the dark skies. Probably most amazing the bright glow and shimmer of the milky way.
Though I didn't give my heart to Jesus until I was 17 years old, I was raised in a Christian home. Before and after my conversion being outdoors always stirred something in me. I would gaze into the abyss of the dark night sky splashed with the glitter of stars and just be at awe of God's creation.
I think we can all agree, gazing into the night sky will make us question our existence and the existence of the universe. Just how did all things suddenly appear? Selfish of me, but how did I come to existence?
Though there are different beliefs and thoughts of creation and our existence, I personally lean toward science which ultimately leads me to faith, the Word of God. There are many scriptures that speak of creation and especially the beginning chapters of Genesis, but specifically Psalm 139 gives us some intimate details of our creation, existence and our Creator.
It was you who formed my internal organs, fashioning me within my mother's womb. I praise you, because you are fearful and wondrous! Your work is wonderful, and I am fully aware of it. My frame was not hidden from you while I was being crafted in a hidden place, knit together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes looked upon my embryo, and everything was recorded in your book. The days scheduled for my formation were inscribed, even though not one of them had come yet. How deep are your thoughts, God! How great is their number! Were I to count them, they would number more than the sand. When I awake, I will be with you.
Psalm 139:13-18 ISV
There is something so intimate about God and His creation of you and me. He knew us before we existed. Regardless if you are a follower of Christ or even if you are an atheist.
God knew you before you existed. In fact you existed before you were born, before you were in the womb of your mother and even before conception. God knew you before all creation! In fact we may say, think and believe that we did not exist before conception. But in fact you have existed in the heart of God since eternity's past.
Those nine months in the womb was the fruition of what was in God's heart. The womb of our mother was the place that God was at work. It is a place where the Master builder was at work intricately piecing together our bodies, cell by cell and piece by piece our legs, arms, fingers, eyes, mouth, nose, lungs, liver, kidneys and heart were being formed. It is a place I call the holy of holies. God forbid any person to intervene with what God is doing in the womb and rightly so with the mother bearing the child.
But, a body is nothing without a spirit, without a soul. Adam's body was lifeless until God breathed into his nostrils. Before that he was just a clump of dust formed in the image of God.
The real miracle is the unique difference in the baby and mother, not just physically but spiritually. The very life and breath of the baby in the womb is coming from God through the mother. Is it no wonder Adam named his wife Eve. Eve meaning "mother of all living" Two uniquely and different living humans created by God.
My lack of intellectually composing words to describe what my heart knows about the God of creation brings me grief. I hope you can experience and know the God in the bible. He loves you so much he to was born like you and me, who experienced all what you feel and experience in life.
God does not only know our pain he can feel it too. In fact 2000 years ago he carried our pain, sorrow and sin to the cross. Not only to be saved and free of sin, but most importantly that we would know and have a personal relationship with our Creator. He loved us before we were created, we existed in His heart before all creation.
Before the beginning we were. Because He loves us so much!
For I know the plans that I have for you,' declares the LORD, 'plans for well-being, and not for calamity, in order to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11
