“As A Pro-Choice Christian”

My body my choice banner

On Wednesday, January 11th, the House of Representatives passed H.R.26 - The “Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act.” It will protect any child born alive during an attempted abortion and give them equal care, protection, and rights as any other born-alive child.

A child is defenseless, so we would expect not just our politicians but humanity to stand in the gap to defend, protect and save the child if in danger - or, so I would expect.

Although H.R. 26 passed with 220 yea votes, this bill surprisingly received 210 nay votes. Only one democrat, Henry Cuellar from Texas, voted yea.

Let me clarify: 210 democrats and three republicans in the House of Representatives voted to refuse the care, protection, and rights of born-alive abortion survivors.

(1) DEGREE OF CARE REQUIRED; IMMEDIATE ADMISSION TO A HOSPITAL.—Any health care practitioner present at the time the child is born alive shall—

“(A) exercise the same degree of professional skill, care, and diligence to preserve the life and health of the child as a reasonably diligent and conscientious health care practitioner would render to any other child born alive at the same gestational age; and

“(B) following the exercise of skill, care, and diligence required under subparagraph (A), ensure that the child born alive is immediately transported and admitted to a hospital.

Rep. Hillary Scholten (D-Mich.) spoke on the House floor and said this.

“As a pro-choice Christian who chose life, this issue is so personal to me. My faith informs my actions, but it doesn’t dictate the policy of an entire nation,” “And further, when I read the Scripture, I turn to passages, and I’m guided by passages like Jeremiah 1, verse 5, which states, ‘I knew You before I formed you, and I placed you in your mother’s womb’. It Doesn’t say ‘the government’s womb,’ or ‘the Speaker’s womb.’ It says ‘the mother’s womb.”

She’s a pro-choice Christian defending abortion, and the refusal of care and protection of born-alive abortion survivors with Jeremiah 1:5. I believe her statement and interpretation of Scripture - removes God from the text. Unfortunately, this reflects our politics, policies, and politicians in our Capitol. God is absent. Thankfully there are those in office, far and few, that honor God, but as a whole, we are witnessing the decay of morality among our elected officials.

Christians can back-slide and sin, even to the point of being pro-choice. But I don’t believe a Christian walking with Jesus and living according to the Bible would favor abortion. That person is backsliding or not a born-again. John 3:1-21.

Based on Jeremiah 1:5, God speaks about a living person created in His image. Delicately and meticulously knit together in the most sacred and holiest place - a mother's womb. Psalm 139.

Claiming to be a pro-choice Christian doesn't make sense. A born-again Christian should not support the deliberate killing of a baby. That is murder.
